Cutting Saddles
Cutting is a way of separating a single steer, calf or cow from its group or herd. To do this the riding gears should be functional and effective. This is why cutting saddles are designed particularly for this type of riding activity. Since cutting is what one may call a finesse activity, it also requires a finesse saddle.
Cutting saddles are designed to keep the rider in a balance position and out of the way of the horse when there are sharp starts, turns or stops. The horn and the swells are also very high to enable the rider to hang onto the horn at proper angles to be able to pull or push it to gain stability.

The typical features of cutting saddles are: a flat and long seat that allows for maximum maneuverability, roughed out fenders and jockeys used for better grip, free swinging fender which are forward hung to allow for the riders balance during stops and turns, low cantle designed not to hit the rider in the back, double rigging, both front and flank cinch, tall and thin horn also for better grip, straight, wide and high swells to hold the rider again during sharp stops and turns and slim stirrups for the boots to stay in place.
