Saddle pads are an important part of a saddle as its purpose it to absorb sweat, cushion the saddle, and protect the horse's back. They are usually thick, with layers of felt, foam or other materials wedged between a tough outer cover on top and a soft cover on the side that is in contact with the horse's back.

Saddle pads come in various styles and designs usually depending on the type of saddle to be used.
